Closures and cancellations due to COVID-19http://fer.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/board-news/127Closures and cancellations due to COVID-19<div><strong>On May 19, the Premier’s Office announced that all publicly funded schools in Ontario will remain closed for the duration of the 2019-2020 school year, in response to COVID-19</strong>. As such, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) schools and adult learning centres will not reopen on May 31, 2020. The decision to extend the school closure period for the remainder of the school year is based on advice from Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health in order to protect the health and safety of students, families and staff. <br></div><div><br></div><div>The following programs/meetings will not run or are closed:<br></div><div><ul><li>Permits (Community Use of Schools)</li><li>All EarlyON and Child Care Centres</li><li>Adult and continuing education</li><li>Dual Credit and Cooperative education programs<br></li><li><div>Business and Facilities Standing Committee (June 3, 2020)</div></li><li><div>Program Standing Committee (June 10, 2020)<br></div></li><li><div>Human Resources Standing Committee (June 10, 2020)<br></div></li><li><div>First Nations Education Advisory Committee (June 11, 2020)<br></div></li></ul></div><div>In addition, the Education Centre and the Career Centre are closed to the public.<br></div><div><br></div><div>Learn more at <a href="http://www.scdsb.on.ca/covid-19">www.scdsb.on.ca/covid-19</a><br></div>

I hope that you and your family are doing well during this unprecedented time. I wanted to inform you that we are working hard to support your child’s learning, and to develop a Continuity of Learning plan for our students, should school closures extend beyond April 5.</p><p style="color:#000000;font-family:tinos;font-size:medium;">Over the next few days, your child’s classroom teacher will be contacting you to check in and determine what the best method of communication will be going forward. We want to ensure you that we are doing all we can to support your child’s learning.<br></p><p style="color:#000000;font-family:tinos;font-size:medium;">As announced on March 23, the Ministry of Education has launched Learn at Home, an online portal with resources to support student learning until April 5. We encourage you to visit our board website at www.scdsb.on.ca, for more detailed information about Learn at Home and other matters related to COVID-19.</p><p style="color:#000000;font-family:tinos;font-size:medium;">The staff at Ferndale are missing our students and we hope that they are well. In the SCDSB, ETFO represents permanent elementary teachers, occasional elementary teachers and designated early childhood educators (DECEs), while OSSTF represents permanent and occasional secondary teachers and continuing education instructors.</p><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Should tentative agreements not be reached, all SCDSB schools and adult learning centres will be closed to students on Friday, Feb. 21, as there would not be sufficient supervision to ensure student safety. As a result, transportation for all SCDSB students will be cancelled on Feb. 21.</div><div><br></div><div>Before and after school programs in our buildings will not operate. Parents/guardians who have children in full-day child care in SCDSB schools should contact their provider directly.
